Hospital
Replacement
The UCSF Hospital
Replacement Project concerns the future of UCSF Medical Center inpatient
facilities, which must be largely replaced to meet the growing demand
for specialized care and upcoming deadlines for state-mandated seismic
safety standards. UCSF has been engaged in a comprehensive planning
process to determine the future of how to best address this need.
A
UCSF committee exploring options to replace the hospital has proposed
four possible sites, including two on Parnassus Avenue and two at
Mission Bay. Scenarios involving building a 250-bed hospital at
UCSF's Mount Zion campus have been set aside for now, pending review
of the other four locations.
The
Clinical and Research Planning Subcommittee has issued recommendations
which call for a combination of new buildings, renovated facilities,
and expanded facilities at the UCSF Mission Bay, Parnassus, and
Mount Zion campuses. The project would be carried out in phases
over the next 15 years, and will be forwarded to the UC Board of
Regents for consideration in March 2005.
This
long-range planning process has also involved members from the community,
including the Community
Advisory Group (CAG). It also involves environmental impact
studies and public hearings. Select this link to see the
