The Community Advisory Group (CAG) is the centerpiece of our collaboration with communities throughout San Francisco. Made up of representatives from a wide range of neighborhood, civic, ethnic, labor, and business groups, the CAG includes independent-minded members who don't flinch at giving the campus their unvarnished views. As UCSF planners assess campus space needs and search for expansion opportunities, CAG members work as partners. They advise and occasionally reprimand the campus.

Originally formed in 1992, the most tangible evidence of the CAG's success was the Board of Regents' adoption – with overwhelming community support – of the 1996 UCSF Long Range Development Plan (LRDP). The LRDP contains criteria, goals and objectives – developed by the CAG in conjunction with faculty and staff – that guide the development of a wide range of UCSF projects.

Currently, there are six CAG Action Teams: Community Partnerships, Hospital Replacement, Housing, Mission Bay, Mount Zion, and Parnassus.
